Tel Aviv 100 years birthday celebrations
April 2009 will mark the 100th anniversary of the city of Tel Aviv.
The Tel Aviv Centennial Year opened officially with a massive free concert. Hundreds of thousands came to celebrate the city's holiday. The beautiful stage that was built for the Centennial Celebrations hosted the many of Israel's leading performers for one of the biggest open concerts that ever took place in Tel Aviv.
Mayor Ron Huldai lit a birthday cake with 100 candles to open the Event. Maestro Zubin Mheta conducted the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, joined by 800 dancers, singers, musicians and actors in a homage to the history of the first Hebrew City.
A DJ turned the Rabin Square into a massive rave party where tens of thousands where dancing and singing.
The concert is the first of many public events that will occur over the next nine months.
